Intermediate Block Series – Tube Quilting
Jenny shows us a tube quilting technique first found from Cozy Quilt Designs. Here Jenny shows us how to use a simple square ruler to achieve the same effect. Surprisingly fun and easy.
Both the rulers and the jelly rolls are available in the shop -

I did this with a little bit thinner pieces of fabric that I had leftover from my Christmas quilt and it is going to make an AWESOME table runner for my mom for her Christmas present! Also my hubby was very impressed when he saw and that is always a boost!

I don't understand how two strips 2-1/2" wide become 4-1/4". The quarter inch seam should give you 4-1/2" shouldn't it?

I'm confused. If you have two 2 1/2 strips and a 1/4 inch seam that would leave two 2 1/4 strips for a width of 4 1/2. What am I missing here?

Several people have questioned my math on this tube project….I must admit math is not my strong point….Sorry. It should be 4.5…(I think..sigh). The idea is that you can have as many strips as you want and then just measure the total width of your strips and cut the contrasting fabric that size. Good luck and I hope you enjoy this!

I can't even begin to tell you how much fun this block is! It is really the first intricate block that I have ever done. You made it so easy! I felt so accomplished when I cut and then opened them up. Like tiny little presents… : ) thanks for your tutorials! I adore them.

Can you tell me, please, how you get your 2.5 inch strips to come out to 4.25 inches if you use a quarter inch seam. Mine keep coming out to 4.5.
Thanks,
Cindi

This is a WONDERFUL video! However, I do have a question: Wouldn't the four sides of each block be on the bias? I'm wondering if this would cause a "wavy" problem after all the blocks are sewn together or how careful I'd have to be so that the quilt will lay flat.
I just love techniques like this that are fast and easy to do … yet the finished product looks like it was very time-consuming and hard to do. Thanks so much for posting this, Jenny!

Hi Carol,
The ruler can be any size because you're just using the angle it gives, we use a 6 x 6 or a 12 x 12 depending on what's on the table

Is there an error in the tutorial? The 2 strips together measure 4.5" for me. Do we cut the third strip 41/2 in wide WOF. I cut my third strip 4.25 inches and nothing is nmatching. I am frustrated.
